iono Documentation - SMS Notifications

iono provides you with the option to receive SMS notifications to your phone when a new invoice is created and/or when an invoice is pending approval.

The SMS message system is managed through the Olate Customer System. All messages sent directly to the gateway take a few seconds to process so the Olate system works around a queue. Messages are inserted directly into the queue on the Olate server which is then processed every 60 seconds. This ensures there is no delay with communication between your iono installation and the Olate server.

Setup

In order to start using the SMS notifications system, you must first buy a number of SMS credits. Each credit allows you to send a single message to one recipient - you can have multiple recipients receive the same message. This is managed from your Customer Account.

To get started, follow the instructions below:

  1. Go to the order system to purchase SMS credits. Once your order has been completed, your credits will be added to your account.
  2. Log into your Customer Account and click the SMS sub menu option. You will now see how many credits you have available along with options to add contacts and also a history of messages sent.
  3. Before any messages can be sent, you must add at least 1 contact to your account. You can add as many contacts as you wish, all of whom will receive the notifications (provided you have sufficient credits).
  4. Log into your iono admin control panel and click the Settings option.
  5. Scroll down near the bottom to the SMS Notification Settings section.
  6. Choose for which event(s) you wish to receive a notification for by ticking the appropriate boxes.
  7. Enter your Customer System username and password. This allows iono to find your SMS credits in your account.

You are now ready to receive SMS notifications!

Contacts

You can add multiple contacts to receive all SMS messages. When entering your phone number, use only numbers with no spaces. Including your country dial code and remove any leading zeros. For example, UK 07791 234 455 becomes 447791234455 and US 248 123 456 becomes 1248123456. A list of country codes can be found here.

Troubleshooting

Messages are inserted into a queue which is processed every 60 seconds. As such, it may take just over 60 seconds to receive any messages sent to your phone.

If an error occurs, it will not be reported in iono. You can use the Message History in the Customer System to track any failed messages.

If you do not receive any messages and no credits are deducted from your account then the issue is usually caused by entering an invalid username and password into your iono settings.

If you do not have enough credits to send messages to all contacts, the system will send messages to contacts in alphabetical order until it runs out of credits. After you reach 0 credits, an error will be logged in the Message History view so you can see when a message has failed.
